RDNHS Programme - April to September 2010

The following list of Nature walks and talks have been organised by the Ruislip & District Natural History Society. RWT members are welcome to attend any of the listed events but please contact the leader in case of any last minute changes.
All indoor meetings are held in Ruislip Guide Hut in the Manor Farm Complex, Bury Street, Ruislip.

Fri 30th April – Badger watch, this event will go on until late and numbers will be limited so book early. Bring torch & warm clothing. Contact Steve Pash 01895 675582 or 07768 154883

Sunday 9th May – Ruislip Woods Festival 12 – 16.30 on the Willow lawn, Ruislip Lido, HA4 7TY
Ruislip Festival walk starting at the Duck Pond at Manor Farm, looking at Mediaeval Earthworks, then walking via Park Wood to finish at the Lido at 12.00. Details from Eileen & Colin Bowlt 01895 638060.

Sat 15th or Sun 16th May (depending on weather) - Ruislip Woods & River Pinn for spring wildlife. Details from Steve or Sue Place 01895 634510

Sat 29th May - Ivinghoe Beacon/Aldbury Nowers for Butterflies etc and chalk grassland restoration. Meet 11.00. Details from Ched George 01494 484493

Sat 5th June – Chobham Common in NE Surrey for heathland birds and dragonflies. Depending on weather/interest we may visit nearby sites for local specialities like Crossbill. Bring lunch. Details from Martin Sullivan 07854 828276

Sat 19th June – The 2010 Birdrace. Annual contest against our friends in the Hillingdon Natural History Society. An all day fun event and part participation welcome. Details from John Edwards 01494 870337

Wed 30th June – Ruislip Woods for Butterflies and other Wildlife. Joint meeting with Herts & Middx branch of Butterfly Conservation. Details from Steve Pash 01895 675582 or 07768 154883

Sat 10th July – Cow Down, a return visit to this downland on the Berks/Oxon border for butterflies, plants & birds. Contact John Edwards 01494 870337

Wed 14th July – Glow-worms & Bats at Harefield Place. Evening walk around this local Nature reserve. Bring torch. Joint meeting with HNHS. Details Judy Cross 01895 631015

Sat 31st July – Rainham Marshes – A return visit to this popular RSPB reserve north of the R.Thames near Purfleet for late summer/early autumn migrants. Café, shop, toilets etc. Details from Dick Middleton 0208 845 6207 or 07944 242341

Sat 21st August – Linkey Down, Aston Rowant – a walk through woodland and chalk down for butterflies and general natural history. Joint meeting with HNHS. Details from Phil Taylor 01895 256453

Sat 11th September – Oare Marshes. A visit to this nature reserve in north Kent for waders & passage migrants. Details from Jim Spooner 01322 294064

Sat 25th September – Staines Moor, A visit to this remnant habitat, one of the remaining flood meadows in the area with a possible visit to nearby gravel pit and reservoirs afterwards. Details from John Edwards 01494 870337

Monday 27th September – Indoor Meeting at Ruislip Guide Hut at 8.15pm. The Reptiles, Amphibians and other Wildlife of South Carolina by Nick Bessant.
